Set to open in Spring 2017 , the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center exemplifies a strong commitment to institutionalizing diversity as an important core value at Washington State University. This center will help broaden the academic experience for the campus community, while remaining cognizant of the research and practice that focuses on academic excellence for a diverse student, faculty and staff population.
The overarching theme for the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center is intersectionality, and it will be a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone to visit and utilize.
Some of the amenities include four “knowledge rooms”, an open “living room” space for larger events, a commercial and demonstration kitchen, gender neutral bathrooms, outdoor seating, a meditation pavilion, and cultural art.
In April 2015, President Elson Floyd drew a picture of his vision for a WSU Cultural Center on a napkin.. Dr. Floyd’s vision for the center to serve as the official welcome to WSU, hence its location at the front door to to campus at Stadium Way and Main.
