2009 Distinguished Service Awards

2009 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards for Staff, Student or Community 

 

The Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award Committee is seeking nominations for the 2009 Distinguished Service Award for a current Washington State University staff, full-time student, or community individual or group that has demonstrated extraordinary contributions in continuing the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Objective
This award recognizes a staff member, student, or community individual/group that excels in the advancement of diversity through innovative and effective programs, service, or outreach for staff, student, and/or the Washington State University community.

Criteria
Submit a nomination that addresses how the nominee has demonstrated extraordinary achievement in advancing diversity through one or more of the following:

  • Accomplishments, leadership, and service in an effort to promote and motivate others toward an understanding of and quest for human rights and social justice for all people.
  • Activities, programs, or services for creating a supportive climate for underrepresented groups.
  • Achievement in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining diverse groups.

Eligibility
Award nominees from all campuses can be current Washington State University staff, full-time student, or a community individual or group that have implemented programs, activities, or events that has made a significant difference in the University environment. 

Award
The award recipient will formally receive the award at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Nomination
Nominations must include the following:

  • A completed nomination form.
  • A nominating statement citing specific accomplishments and services of the nominee (2 pages maximum).
  • Optional: Other supporting material such as letters of support, resumes, newspaper articles to support the nomination (4 pages maximum).

Please send your nomination packet not exceeding 6 pages, including the nomination form to: Donna Arnold, Associate Director for Multicultural Student Services, Compton Union Bldg (CUB), Room 420, Campus Zip 7204 NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2008.
